Free Validation
May 4, 2010

The beautiful art of validation.  I don’t usually post videos this long, but this one really has the potential for altering your life and I just HAD to post it.  It has had well over 3 million views.  Weight loss and good health is nothing more than an attitude, as is everything else in life as shown by this movie. This guy should win an Oscar…I’ll shut up now so you can watch.

Much love,

Are You Happy?
April 26, 2010

So often the things that elude us are the things we make up to be so complex in our lives. They have to be complex for our egos to justify not having “solved” them yet. If it were easy, then we’d not be struggling with it, right? Well, not really. One of the things I discovered in my journey of releasing over 100lbs is that the things I made up to be the most difficult were usually the most simple. This was, in part, the inspiration for the title Six Simple Truths.

Ultimately, we all want to be happy. It is our hope that attracting better health will facilitate this happiness and I can tell you from first hand experience that it certainly makes it easier to be happy when you have some energy and you feel like moving. Below is a great flow chart that was found at

All you have to do is change the way you think until you get the desired result.

You can do this…and so much more.

Inspiration vs. Motivation
March 4, 2010

Myspace Inspiration Graphics Quotes

I’m not sure how many times someone has asked me where I get the motivation to keep on going and to have released so much excess body fat.  More than a couple, for sure.  My response is always the same.  Motivation is great to get you through a particularly tough moment in time.  I’ve heard it called temporary emotional fuel….temporary.   The problem comes in when we demand that our endeavors at self-improvement are propelled by nothing more than motivation and will power.  Eventually, it runs out.  It was never intended to last forever.  Motivation is something that comes from something external, like someone getting you pumped up to try harder or some event that you want to excel at or ages ago, perhaps a saber tooth tiger trying to eat you.  It works very well, but when you take away the external stimulus, the motivation usually wanes.

I offer an alternative; (more…)

A Secret Ingredient to Effortless Ease
February 18, 2010

Ever wonder why some people seem to get amazing things done with what seems like no effort at all?  Do you know anyone who day in and day out gets out there and does the things that perhaps we wish we were driven to do?  Maybe it’s exercise, hard work, dedication to practice or helping others.  Well, I have found there are many components that go into living an inspired life and achieving your goals with effortless ease, but there is one that in my mind sticks out head and shoulders above the rest.  To me, for this there is just no substitute for and it’s one of the main reasons I get up every morning…… (more…)

The Pendulum
February 8, 2010

The Zen of pendulum swingingEver feel like you’re trying too hard but not sustaining the results you desire?  There’s a very good reason for that.  Quite often in life we tend to go all or nothing and thus goes the swinging of the pendulum.  I found in the past when I would try to “diet” that I would be so strict and exercise so intensely that after several weeks I would inevitably burn out and ultimately quit.  I would have drug my metabolism so low that when I reintroduced the no-so-healthy foods back into my life, I would gain all the weight right back and then some.  Now, as Forrest Gump says, “I am not a smart man….” but I do know this is no way to release weight. One Brick at a Time
January 30, 2010

Often in life when we are presented with a large daunting task, it is easy to get so overwhelmed that we end up doing nothing.  I remember I felt a like this when I was very overweight.  It seemed to me that being a normal weight was so far away and so unrealistic that what good would making one good choice right now do.  Of course, this is thinking that will have to be overcome to ever accomplish the bigger things in life.

So how do we get past this? (more…)

The Truth about Will Smith
January 22, 2010

Now here’s a man, very accomplished and highly respected by anyone’s standards, who has figured some things out in life, at an early age.  Will Smith goes on to tell how to get what you want in life, be it physical, emotional or spiritual.  He unlocks the secrets to his success and exposes them for all to see.  Listen and learn.

The qualities spoken of resonate with the Six Simple Truths.  As Will puts it,

“The truth is the only thing that is ever going to be constant.”

He has guided his life with it and uses these principles to help mankind.

Will, the world is a better place for having you.  You are in inspirational leader.  My hat is off to you, sir.

Listen to Your Heart
January 7, 2010

What you want, wants you.

I believe there comes a time in everyone’s life when they become unclear on what to do next or where to begin or how to get what you want. I think what even more people question is, “What do I want?” And though these questions have been pondered by nearly everyone that has walked the earth, even to this day and age, with all the information at our fingertips and vast knowledge available to us, it would seem we are no closer to these answers than we’ve ever been.

There is a simple answer. (more…)

This is a first for me, to start my new year this way, but what have you got to lose?……right.

Ah yes, New Years and it’s resolutions are finally here again.  What’s it going to be this year?  I remember when I started my journey to physical well being, I came to a realization that I didn’t need another list of goals that I may or may not have reached.  What I needed was to set my intentions not on what I was going to do in January, but how I was going to live my life from this point forward.  And so, that is what I did.  I wrote down these six intentions that go along with the Six Simple Truths. Five Great Life Lessons
December 28, 2009

My father and dear friend, Fred Hightower, Jr. passed last week after a two-year long bout with cancer.  We had a service for him at which I spoke to say a few words to honor his life.  There were many things that I learned from my father and he was my biggest fan and supporter for my book and my blog and my endeavors to help people live a healthier life.  I want to share briefly some of those things my father’s life taught me.
